Palm Sunday 2011
In the celebration of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, there is an unmistakable political statement being made. Jesus is King, and Caesar is not!
When Christians confess, “Jesus is Lord,” we are saying, “The position has been filled, fully and forever — no other candidates need apply.” Jesus, and not any earthly ruler, nor any power or principality, is Lord of all that is. This is the story of Palm Sunday. Anything that would vie for our allegiance — whether it’s entertainment, family, money, patriotism, or self! – must be seen as a usurper to God’s rightful reign in our lives.

On the first Palm Sunday, there were two processions coming into Jerusalem. Our reading from Luke 19:28-40 recounts one of them; Wayne tells us about the other one. They presented a choice to the people of Jesus’ day and the “two processions” present us with a choice still today.
Palm Sunday
Jesus is revealed as the true king in Luke 19:29-44. The “things that are required for peace” are 1) the coming of the king and 2) the response of welcome by the people. This message marked the beginning of Holy Week for the church and the community life of The Bridge Community.
