After Jesus’ death, two of his friends are having a hard time coping with Jesus being killed and their dreams being crushed. As they are journeying to a small village outside of Jerusalem Jesus shows up, unknown to them, and journey’s alongside the disciples. Though their hearts “burn” within them they are prevented from seeing Jesus until the “breaking of the bread.”

The first Easter Sunday was experienced much differently by Jesus’ followers than we do today. The women who are going to the tomb are surprised to find an empty tomb and a promise that Christ is risen! They leave in fear and trembling not knowing what to make of this news. No physical Jesus, only a promise – and a hope that we enter into today by simply asking, “What if?”
